Writing Blocks

The principles for writing an entire block of Hangul letters are the same as the principles used for writing the individual letters:
  • Left to Right
  • Top to Bottom
Here are the most basic examples:

Left-to-Right: The vowel i with the placeholder consonant


Note that the block as a whole is written left-to-right but the vowel "i" is written top-to-bottom

Top-to-Bottom: The vowel eu with the placeholder consonant


Note that the block as a whole is written top-to-bottom but the vowel "eu" is written left-to-right.

Pat'chim Last: Because of the top-to-bottom principle the Pat'chim is written after the first and second letter:
