Katakana S

The Japanese S sounds are also pretty easy. Just add an S sound before the vowels.

The exception is “shi” which is pronounced like the word “she”.


Sa -
Pronounced 'sa' as in balsa



Shi -
Pronounced 'she' as in she



Su -
Pronounced 'su' as in super



Se -
Pronounced 'say' as in say



So -
Pronounced 'so' as in so what
