Combining Kana

The sounds represented by kana characters can be modified by combining two kana to form a new sound. The first kana is written normally but the second kana is written smaller. The result is a new sound pronounced in the same time span as regular syllable.
き (Ki) + ゆ (Yu) = きゅ (Kyu)
